On the Four Corners Story Today-Femicide Hidden in plain sight
As I read the Four Corners Story about First Nations Women killed and hidden in plain sight today, my first reaction was shock.
According to the Source , First Nations Women are being killed and disappearing at up to 12 times the national average. Last time I checked, in research for the most jam packed module in my online course on relationships, 1 woman loses her life per week, here in Australia.
The article further mentions, that in some regions, that would make homicide rates the highest in the world. I wonder if that is higher than Mexico, rated for being the one of the most violent for women.
Apparently we will never really know the exact numbers because, “there is no agency in Australia keeping count, and there is no standard way of collecting this important data in each state and territory.” The article continues with case studies, reports of under-policing and the police ignoring this horrific situation. It also lists resources for women. Please visit the link for more. Story by: By Bridget Brennan, Suzanne Dredge, Brooke Fryer and Stephanie Zillman, with thanks.
Following my shock, questions and thoughts to share came up.
