Money for Nothing?
Remember the Dire Straits song, Money for Nothing?
It was on repeat, over and over, in my mind, as I drove to an acting job. While most of us, around 85% awake feeling bad, every single day, a lifetime and fortune spent on personal growth, has resulted in daily guidance and waking up with guiding songs playing in my mind.
That day, as I arrived on set to do the job, I realised it couldn’t be more true. What was scheduled to be a long day of filming, turned out to be hair and makeup, wardrobe, a sweeping scene for a commercial, followed by lunch and it was a wrap for me. At lunch I actually said it was money for nothing!
Actors are sometimes described as being lazy. The truth is, whilst it can be taxing with long hours and rehearsals, it is relatively easy. There is a lot of sitting around, waiting, sometimes freezing, in various weather conditions and occasional challenging surroundings.
When compared to physical labour, or stressful corporate environments, #acting can be perceived as money for nothing. After decades of dedicated work as an Actor, it has now become another #revenue stream for me. On the subject of acting, you are welcome to read my book The Actor’s Secret Weapon
