In the HBO series MINX, Ophelia Lovibond stars in the role of Joyce Prigger. Joyce had a dream. As a young feminist, her passion was to publish a Magazine to liberate and empower women. Spoiler Alert if you don’t want to know.
With a lofty, earnest and sometimes overbearing attitude, Joyce perfected her product over years. Joyce had no doubt everyone would love it as much as she did. They didn’t! She received rejection after rejection, bewildered, yet unflinching in her attempts. She was convinced her magazine was perfect, without a thought it may need to evolve.
When a porn publisher was the only publisher to see her potential, offering her a publishing deal, she was horrified. Despite his generous gift to make her dream a reality, she battled against him. Joyce had very little respect for him, until she finally realised she had to make her magazine palatable. That is how the first Erotic Magazine for Women was born.
Joyce was then confronted with her own fears of sexuality, as constant creative, philosophical differences with her publisher, created a number of obstacles. She was unrelenting in her Self-Righteousness. It was a growing experience for her, especially when the media became involved. Suddenly, she became hated. Joyce was mortified.
