Dealing with Grief
Flashback from the 80s
I lost my best friend from school last week. It was sudden and at the young age of 57. Suffering from Cancer, though I am thankful the suffering has ended, it was a real shock. In fact, I have been mourning for days now. Though a Mentor and Coach, practising what I preach, I had a very strong reaction to the news and it has, in fact taken days for me to begin to put those tools into action.
Even when I wasn’t actively crying, my eyes kept tearing up. I found myself suddenly lost and dysfunctional. I was quite beside myself. After buying ice cream, chips, popcorn and other nibbles, which I rarely do, I proceeded to eat my feelings; as I was brainless, I chose to escape in movies and series. My sleep was affected, I isolated. The good news has been, I have been aware of my behaviour.
