About Holidaying at the Whitsundays
It was a long awaited holiday, following the last few years of launching and growing my first company, Areti Goddess Events, established to empower women, to do my part to change our statistics. The image above has to be the most breathtaking experience I have had from a vision. It was literally moving.
My inner guidance told me it was the right time to go, given the ever changing landscape of this Pandemic. As is happened, a day before leaving, the islands and restaurants closed, due to Covid. I am most grateful for the time I was able to spend there. It was Paradise on Earth. Away and free from Covid. Airlie Beach is a beautiful destination with bustling cafes, restaurants and shops, filled with hotels and apartments, most with amazing views.
Arriving at Proserpine Airport, shuttles will take you to Airlie Beach, it takes around 45 minutes. Shuttles are also offered to transport patrons to and from certain venues, like Northerlies, a recommended place to visit. If you can hire a car, it will save you becoming overheated, it is very hot and humid. Air-conditioning is a welcome relief.
We had delicious lunches and dinners, went out to the islands and Whitehaven beach, snorkelled the coral reefs. The first thing we wanted to do when we got there, was jump into the sea and swim, it was so hot! Alas, the first thing I learnt was that it was rainy season, which meant swimming was out of the question, due to stingers and box jelly fish. No wonder no one was swimming when we went to the beach! It seemed such a shame to be surrounded by the welcoming aqua sea and not to be able to enjoy it .In order to go into the water, to snorkel and swim, we had to wear suits.
The best time to visit the Whitsundays is around July or August!
Next, the sun! Due to the heat, sun screens do not work, particularly on Whitehaven beach, where the sand is so white, it reflects the sun. We were sunburnt on Day 1! Whitehaven beach is a must visit, it really is spectacular. Interesting fact about the white sand at Whitehaven beach is that it contains silicone, derived from an erupting volcano, emitting crystals! The best thing is, it doesn’t get too hot to walk on!
Stay Hydrated! Drinking water, adding hydralytes will replenish what you lose in the heat.
Then we experienced the tail end of a cyclone, a very fierce storm that resulted in a loss of electricity. This is difficult for local businesses, as they are unable to process transactions and lose air-conditioning and electricity if they don’t have generators. Water seems to become scarce in stores as well. The locals are accustomed to these weather events. We were without electricity including air-conditioning for a few hours. Luckily we were able to use battery power to watch Netflix and the storm was amazing to watch!
Everything can be viewed from different perspectives, it can be an adventure and it was! My belief that life balance is vital was reaffirmed as I succeeded in my intention to switch off and enjoy a holiday. We all deserve a break!
Wishing you amazing success,
