A 13-year-old girl is gang raped
Years ago, I watched a film about acid attacks on Women in India and was appalled. Now I’m watching “to kill a tiger” on Netflix.
Set in a small village in India, a 13-year-old girl, attends a wedding and is gang raped by three boys. She arrives home Beaten and Raped, as her father greets her at the door. She tells her parents what happened and understandably her parents take her side. They decide to report it to the police.
What they find, however, is the Tight knit Community of the village ostracise them all and side with the perpetrators instead. All they care about is keeping the peace in the small village They live in and blame the girl. They suggest she marry one of the rapists to keep the peace.
The Village chief is against the girl, saying it was her fault for staying behind at the wedding to Dance, and threatening that someone will be killed if these rapists are brought to Justice and then released in due course.
The family face a justice system requiring bribes and pressure from the Village Chiefs and inhabitants. They receive death threats as a warning against legal action.
The 13-year-old girl has to testify in court. She says that she would rather die than give in. Despite the fear her father faces, this gives him courage. Meanwhile the family are in poverty as they have to keep legal fees paid.
Their only saving Grace is Foundation supporting Women and they work hard to support them in the justice system, as well…
