Self-sabotage is a pattern of thoughts and actions causing ongoing issues. This means you engage in self-defeating behaviours such as avoidance, perfectionism, negative self-talk, procrastination, or conflict. Self-sabotage becomes especially destructive when the behaviour becomes a habit, done so automatically that you don’t even fully register you are doing it or that it is leading to negative outcomes.
